David Raben

For the past 39 years, David Raben has practiced exclusively in the area of criminal defense and forfeiture matters in both state and federal courts.  Moreover, Mr. Raben has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Miami School of Law teaching pretrial litigation skills for the past 15 years.  He is a former recipient of the President’s Award from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has served the Florida Bar as a member of grievance committees.

For the past 27 years, Mr. Raben has been recognized by the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell rating system with an A-V rating, the highest accolade rewarded as a result of his legal abilities and his practice of the very highest ethical and professional standards.

Mr. Raben has been regularly named as one of South Florida’s Top Lawyers practicing criminal defense in the South Florida Legal Guide, Florida Trend Weekly, and Super Lawyers publications.  This yearly recognition by these various publications is further evidence of the respect Mr. Raben has earned amongst his legal peers.

Mr. Raben has obtained numerous acquittals in federal court in the course of his 39 years of trial practice.  In United States v. Lostal, a case tried in the federal court in Redding, Pennsylvania, Mr. Raben obtained an acquittal in a case involving the transshipment by a trucker in excess of 400 kilograms of cocaine.

The law enforcement community has also reached out to Mr. Raben in high profile defense cases as well.  In State v. Oliveri, Mr. Raben successfully defended a Broward law enforcement officer against charges of sexual battery of an incarcerated individual.  In addition to a wide ranging and busy trial practice in both state and federal courts, Mr. Raben has extensive experience representing individuals that are the target of ongoing investigations as well as grand jury matters.  Mr. Raben has worked diligently to prevent charges from being filed against numerous clients by heading off zealous government investigations against targets.

Mr. Raben graduated from the University of Florida with high honors in 1977 and University of Florida Law School in 1980.  Mr. Raben was admitted to the Supreme Court of Florida in 1980 and to the United States Supreme Court in 1983. Mr. Raben is a member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and a member of the trial bar for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
